Cultural Preservation Through Public Art
Augusta continues to preserve and celebrate its history through public art initiatives
across Downtown and the historic Laney Walker–Bethlehem District. The Golden Blocks
mural project highlights African American educational institutions, faith communities, and
leaders who have played a significant role in shaping the area’s legacy. These efforts
reflect a broader commitment to honoring the stories, contributions, and cultural
foundations that define Augusta.

MURAL ALERT
A MURAL CAN TELL A STORY, AND THIS
ONE IS OURS!
The City celebrated the installation of its newest public art display in Downtown
Augusta titled “Ours.” More than a visual landmark, the mural reflects the culture,
resilience, and spirit of the community, capturing the voices, experiences, and history
that define Augusta.
Positioned within the heart of Downtown, the installation contributes to ongoing efforts
to enhance public spaces while creating meaningful points of connection for residents
and visitors. The mural serves as both a celebration of identity and a reminder of the
shared values that unite the community.
Through initiatives like this, Augusta continues to invest in public art as a tool for
beautification, cultural preservation, and civic engagement. These projects transform
everyday spaces into places of reflection, storytelling, and pride.
