CAPTAIN
JOSEPH SCARLETT
Captain Joseph Scarlett has been a law enforcement officer for 26 years. Captain
Scarlett was inspired to become a law enforcement officer by his father who served
as a Richmond County Deputy Sheriff in the early 70’s. Captain Scarlett started his
law enforcement career with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. He
worked in the Jail, Field Services Division, Special Operations, Criminal
Investigations, and the Civil/Fugitive Division. In 2007, Captain Scarlett
traveled to Afghanistan and worked as a police mentor, advisor, and
training supervisor to officers of the Afghan National Police and Border
Patrol. Captain Scarlett later returned to the Richmond County Sheriff’s
Office in 2010, where he became a certified Bomb Technician and member
of the SWAT team. Captain Scarlett has served with the Richmond
County Marshal’s Office since March 2018. Captain Scarlett is currently
assigned to the Administrative Services Division, where his supervisory
responsibilities include training, internal affairs, state law enforcement
certification, and community services.
