CHIEF DEPUT Y
SCOTT PEEBLES
Chief Deputy Scott Peebles has 31 years of law enforcement experience in Richmond County.
He joined the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in 1991, where he served in assignments on the
Road Patrol, Crime Suppression Team, DUI Task Force, SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiation Team,
and Criminal Investigations Division. Chief Peebles has served as Division Commander of both
Criminal Investigations and Road Patrol at the rank of Major. Chief Peebles served as SWAT
Team Commander from 2009-2013 and as an Incident Commander from 2013-2017.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration along with a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate
in Urban Planning and Community Development from Augusta University, a Bachelor’s Degree in
Criminal Justice from Columbus State University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy
and the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College.
Chief Peebles is a graduate of Leadership Augusta (class of 2010) and Leadership Georgia (class
of 2011). He has served on the Board of Directors for Safe Homes of Augusta and the Greater
Augusta Arts Council. Chief Peebles currently serves on the Board of Directors for United Way of
the CSRA, where he served as the Board Chair in 2017.
Chief Peebles joined the Marshal’s Office in January of 2017.

BILL PROBUS
Colonel Probus began his law enforcement career in 1984 as a police officer with the Augusta
Police Department. Over the past 39 years, he has worked with APD, the CSRA Regional Police
Academy, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. He
also worked as a consultant from 1996 – 2003 for the Georgia Regional Community Policing
Institute and with the Strategic Management Alliance from 2005-2008.
He has provided dozens of agencies throughout the southeast with the tools and experience
necessary to implement Community Oriented Policing and Strategic Management.
He has earned both Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice and his Executive
MBA. He is a Georgia State Senior Instructor and holds instructor specialties in Firearms,
Defensive Tactics, SWAT, Emergency Medical Services, and Hazardous Materials. He also earned
his Certified Employment Law Specialist Certification in 2000. During his law enforcement
career, he has served as Commander of the Patrol Division, Special Operations Division, and
Office of Professional Standards and Training for two different Sheriff’s Offices. He also
served as the Tactical Operations Commander for the SWAT Team and was the Commander
for the VIP/Dignitary Protection Team. In 2022, Colonel Probus completed the John Maxwell
Guardian Leadership Trilogy. In February of 2023, Colonel Probus earned his Certified Protection
Professional (CPP) designation from ASIS. Colonel Probus joined the Richmond County Marshal’s
Office in 2017.
